Assistant Manager – Diesel Engineering

Daily Responsibilities

Reporting to the Branch Manager you will act as 2IC and support for the Branch Manager in the following areas of responsibility:

  1. Manage and monitor staff to ensure all activities are completed to the correct standard.
  2. Monitor workshop activities to ensure that jobs are completed on time and according to quality standards.
  3. Train staff on equipment, processes and procedures.
  4. Build and maintain relationships with customers.
  5. Ensure customer needs are fulfilled and customer satisfaction is achieved.
  6. Take responsibility for resolving issues with customers.
  7. Actively participate in sales & marketing activities to source new clients for the business.
  8. Work towards increasing profitability via cost control.
  9. Assist the Branch Manager to achieve objectives and financial requirements such as profitability targets.
  10. Assist in taking responsibility for all aspects of the management of the branch such as facilities, security, workshop and equipment.
  11. Check quality of all equipment.
  12. Cashing up and banking.
  13. Ensure stock takes are completed and stock levels meet customer needs.
  14. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
Work closely with the health and safety department to safeguard staff, customers and third parties

Candidate Requirements

  1. Grade 12 tertiary school qualification
  2. Technical qualification related to motor engineering
  3. At least 5 years related experience in a middle to senior level position within motor engineering environment.
  4. Proven ability to manage and supervise staff.
  5. Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  6. Ability to work with all levels of people.
  7. Action focused and committed.
  8. High level of integrity and trust.
  9. Time management essential.
  10. Ability to build customer relationships as well as sell & market to new customers.
  11. Strong planning and preparation skills

Only candidates with suitable technical qualifications (diesel mechanic) and previous experience in working with the following engines will be considered:

  1. Deutz
  2. Perkins
  3. Cummins
  4. Detroit

Package

Market related compensation package with full benefits, and performance bonus subject to achieving company targets
