Laboratory Technologist

Overall

A vacancy exists for the position of Laboratory Technologist in the Gaborone Private Hospital Pathology. The role requires an active hands on Clinical Laboratory Scientist to work in the laboratory and to perform Laboratory tests as required by Doctors and in adherence to specific ISO and Lancet procedures and standards.

Critical Outputs:

  • Hands-on specimen preparation and analysis,performs diagnostic testing procedures and produces results within specified turn around time
  • Operates, maintains and calibrates the equipment used in laboratory to ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results
  • Knowledge of test validation and validation methods;
  • Functional knowledge of tests procedures as prescribed for peripheral laboratory;
  • Implements sound housekeeping procedures and works effectively with others as a member of a team to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with safety protocols;
  • Reports incidents, including instruments failures in compliance with the organization policies and procedures;
  • Reads relevant quality documents within the Laboratory Quality Management System and adheres to Standard Operating procedures of the organization;
  • Carries out any reasonable instructions that the Laboratory meets accreditation standards;
  • Participates in both internal and external audits;
  • Maintains accreditation status & monitors QC;
  • Controls stock and stock taking,shipping, results, interface, management reports and printing of reports online, QC and login.

Requirements

  • A Diploma/Degree trained in Laboratory Technology Scientist required;
  • Must have at least Three to Four years experience in a hospital setting
  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of Laboratory information systems
  • Must be professional and have a sense of urgency towards work
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Must be reliable and flexible to work shifts
  • Must have a valid registration with Botswana Health Professions Council (BHPC)
